A thousand years of history, of faith, courage and human talent shaped the Wonder of the West, a masterpiece of World Heritage.
It was in 709 that this beautiful story begins, when the Archangel Michael appeared to the Bishop Aubert and orders him to build a sanctuary on the Mont Tombe, granite island in the middle of a huge beaten by the highest tides in the world.
Mont-Saint-Michel was born, during a thousand years, construction still more beautiful and bold will succeed to build an architecturally unique and wonderful.
Alternately monastery, cultural and spiritual center of Christianity, pilgrimage and devotion, citadel and prison, the Mont-Saint-Michel is part of the history of France.
In homage to that story and its distinctive architecture, UNESCO class, in 1972 the Mont-Saint-Michel as a masterpiece of natural and cultural heritage of humanity.
Wonder of the West, the heavenly Jerusalem, Pyramid of the seas : such are the names given to Mont-Saint-Michel since the middle-ages.
Between the Abbey which dominates and the walls that protect him, the medieval village welcomes pilgrims with its main street, narrow street, its gardens, its half-timbered houses clinging to the rock.
Today, more than 3.5 million visitors per year enjoy this spiritual, cultural and touristic destination.
